Production Manager

Reports to: Director of Operations / VP of Manufacturing

About This Role

Oversee daily shop floor operations including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization. Manage a team of CNC machinists, coordinate with engineering and quality departments, and ensure on-time delivery of customer orders.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives, track KPIs (OTD, scrap rate, machine utilization), and maintain a safe, organized work environment. This role is the heartbeat of our production — you keep everything running. We're a startup — everyone gives 110%, one shared goal.

As Production Manager, you'll have real ownership over how the shop operates day-to-day. You're building the production systems, workflows, and culture from the ground up. This isn't a maintenance role — it's a creation role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily shop floor operations and production scheduling
  • Lead and develop a team of CNC machinists and operators
  • Coordinate with engineering and quality departments on job priorities
  • Track and optimize KPIs: on-time delivery, scrap rate, machine utilization
  • Implement and maintain production scheduling and ERP/MRP systems
  • Drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure on-time delivery of all customer orders
  • Manage resource allocation: machines, materials, personnel
  • Conduct performance reviews, mentoring, and team development
  • Maintain safe work environment and OSHA compliance
  • Resolve production bottlenecks and escalate issues proactively
  • Report on production status, capacity, and forecasting to leadership
  • Manage overtime scheduling and shift coverage
  • Coordinate with sales on quoting lead times and capacity planning

Requirements

  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience with 2+ years in a supervisory role
  • Strong understanding of CNC milling and turning operations
  • Experience with production scheduling and ERP/MRP systems
  • Proven leadership skills: team building, conflict resolution, performance management
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Excellent communication skills — bridge the gap between shop floor and front office
  • OSHA safety compliance knowledge
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making under pressure
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and production tracking software
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management experience
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
  • Experience managing a shop of 10+ machinists
  • Familiarity with aerospace or defense production requirements (ITAR, NADCAP)
  • Experience with 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC operations
  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, engineering, or related field

Additional Information

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, standard business hours. Occasional overtime for production deadlines.
