Level Three CNC Machinist

Lead the floor. Master complex 5-axis work.

Union City, CA · $34 – $42/hour · 5+ years

Reports to: Senior CNC Machinist / Shop Supervisor

About This Role

As a Level Three CNC Machinist you will run the most complex work in the shop: 5-axis milling, difficult materials like titanium and Inconel, and the tightest tolerance parts we produce for aerospace and defense customers. You will plan setups, prove out programs and make the calls that keep critical jobs on track.

You will also mentor Level One and Level Two machinists, set the standard for quality on the floor and partner with programming and quality to solve hard problems. We are a startup where everyone gives 110% toward one shared goal.

This is a senior craft role with a clear path toward Senior CNC Machinist and shop leadership. At RivCut, the people who raise the bar lead it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and run the most complex 5-axis milling and multi-axis turning jobs
  • Machine difficult materials: titanium, Inconel and hardened steels
  • Prove out and validate new programs before they reach production
  • Develop and document repeatable setups, fixturing and tooling strategies
  • Solve the hardest dimensional, tooling and process problems on the floor
  • Hold the tightest tolerances and surface finishes the shop produces
  • Partner with programming and quality on DFM and process planning
  • Mentor and train Level One and Level Two machinists
  • Lead first-article inspection and root-cause corrective action
  • Own machine and process capability for assigned cells
  • Deputize for the Senior CNC Machinist on the floor when needed
  • Drive continuous improvement in cycle time, tooling cost and quality

Requirements

  • 5+ years of CNC machining including complex independent setups
  • Expert at reading engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Proven 5-axis or multi-axis setup and proveout experience
  • Experience machining titanium, Inconel or other difficult materials
  • Strong G-code editing and process-optimization skills
  • Advanced inspection skills including CMM data interpretation
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead other machinists
  • Excellent shop math and problem-solving ability
  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade credential preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed apprenticeship or journeyman certification
  • CAM programming experience (Mastercam or Fusion 360)
  • Experience owning AS9100 or ISO 9001 process documentation
  • First-article inspection (AS9102) and CMM experience
  • Lead or cell-lead experience
  • Fixture and tooling design experience

Additional Information

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, standard business hours. Overtime available.
