What Is Laser Cutting?

Laser cutting uses a focused beam of light to cut flat parts from sheet and plate. The beam melts and blows away a narrow path of material — called the kerf — following your CAD file exactly. It's one of the fastest, most economical ways to make brackets, panels, gaskets, and other 2D profiles.

1

We Nest Your Flat Pattern

Your DXF or flat pattern is programmed and nested on the sheet, with the cut path offset to account for kerf.

2

The Beam Cuts Your Profile

The laser traces your geometry through the material, producing clean edges and accurate hole and slot locations.

3

We Deburr, Machine & Inspect

Parts are deburred, machined features are added if your drawing calls for them, and everything is checked before shipping.

More Than a Cut-Only Shop

Laser cutting gets you a fast, accurate flat part. Pairing it with CNC machining gets you a finished one.

Cut + Machined Under One Roof

We laser cut the profile, then mill or drill the features that need machining-level precision — tapped holes, counterbores, pockets, and tight-tolerance bores. One PO, one shop, one accountable team.

Honest Tolerances

Laser cutting typically holds ±0.004" on thin sheet, loosening as material gets thicker. We tell you what the laser can hold — and machine any feature that needs to be tighter, verified by CMM with NIST-traceable gauges.

Deburring & Finishing

Laser-cut edges are deburred before shipping — no sharp corners or dross headed to your assembly line. Ask about surface finishing options when you quote your parts.

Fast, No Minimums

Most parts ship in 5–10 business days, with rush options in as few as 3. Order one bracket or a full production run — 100% made in our Union City, CA shop, never brokered.

Flat Parts We Laser Cut Every Week

Common gauges of aluminum, mild steel, and stainless — cut to your file, deburred, and ready for assembly or machining.

Brackets & Mounting Plates

Mounting brackets, adapter plates, and structural tabs cut from sheet and plate. Accurate hole patterns straight off the laser, with machined features added where the print demands it.

Most common

Panels & Cover Plates

Faceplates, access covers, and instrument panels with cutouts, slots, and ventilation patterns. Clean edges and consistent geometry from the first piece to the last.

Clean edges

Enclosure Flat Patterns

Flat patterns for sheet metal enclosures and housings, cut with bend reliefs and accurate hole-to-edge dimensions. Send a DXF or let us derive the flat from your 3D model.

DXF or STEP

Gaskets & Spacers

Flat gaskets, shims, and spacers in repeatable quantities. The laser holds consistent profiles across the whole run, so every piece fits like the first.

Repeatable profiles

Chassis & Base Plates

Chassis plates, base plates, and frames for robotics, automation, and test equipment. Laser cut the outline and clearance holes, then machine the precision interfaces.

Cut + machine ready

Laser Cut + CNC Machined

The hybrid workflow: laser cut the blank fast and economically, then add tapped holes, counterbores, and tight-tolerance bores on our CNC mills. Machined features get CMM inspection.

Machined Features — CMM Verified Before Shipping

Laser Cut the Blank. Machine the Features That Matter.

Laser cutting is the economical way to make a flat part. But lasers can't tap a hole, cut a counterbore, or hold a bearing-fit bore. That's why we pair the laser with our CNC mills: the profile comes off the laser fast, and the critical features get machining-level precision. Machined features are inspected on our CMM with NIST-traceable gauges.

Common Questions About Laser Cutting

Laser cutting uses a focused beam of light to cut flat parts from sheet and plate. The beam melts and blows away a narrow path of material, following your CAD file exactly. It's one of the fastest ways to make brackets, panels, and other flat parts.
On thin sheet metal, laser cutting typically holds ±0.004 inches. Tolerance gets looser as material thickness increases, with ±0.010 inches typical on thicker material. If a feature needs to be tighter than that, we machine it after cutting. See our laser cutting tolerances guide for details.
Kerf is the width of material the laser beam removes, like the blade thickness on a saw. It typically ranges from 0.006 to 0.020 inches depending on material and thickness. You don't need to compensate in your CAD file. We offset the cut path so finished parts match your drawing.
We cut common gauges of aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel. Tell us your alloy and thickness when you request a quote and we'll confirm fit. If your part is outside laser range, we'll recommend a better process instead of forcing a bad fit.
Laser is usually faster and more economical for thin and mid-gauge sheet metal. Waterjet avoids heat-affected edges and handles thicker or heat-sensitive materials better. Our waterjet vs laser cutting comparison walks through edge quality, thickness, and cost per part.
Yes. This is where we differ from a cut-only shop. We laser cut the profile, then mill or drill the features that need machining-level precision: tapped holes, counterbores, pockets, and tight-tolerance bores. Machined features are verified with CMM inspection using NIST-traceable gauges.
DXF files are ideal for flat parts. We also accept STEP, IGES, and PDF drawings, and we can generate the flat pattern from your 3D model if needed. Upload your file for an instant quote and a free DFM review.
